Fireplace Bricks & Designs

Many people are surprised as to how little they cost!

With 60 metric bricks per m2 , 100 bricks goes along way towards building a fireplace. Our brochure contains some design ideas and we've plenty of fireplaces in our showroom. Page down to see some designs. You can also search through many of the 150 colours we stock by using the "find" facility above.

50mm (2") high handmade bricks and even "minature" briquettes are also in stock & popular for fireplaces as they are like "scaled down" house bricks - & good for feature work.

Approx 250 - 300 bricks ....

From stock - you can purchase any number of bricks. On average - we find that a main surround usually takes around 100 bricks, each side about 50 & a chimney breast (from above central area) about 150 - 200 bricks - depending on the size of the room etc!

To get a better idea how many you may need - remember that for a standard metric brick - approx 65mm x 215mm x 102.5mm - laid with a standard 10mm joint - you need about 60 bricks per square metre (single brickwork).

Approx 100 bricks...

If you built something like this you may need around 100 bricks - if its in single brickwork. To create a recessed effect - we also produce brick tiles from the same in stock bricks.

Note the simple hearth - a layer of bricks with quarry tiles on top (which - guess what - we also supply!)

Approx 200 bricks......

We hope you understand that the estimates of how many bricks you need is a rough guide only. But that's roughly how many people tend to purchase off us when they are building something like this.

How Much do the bricks cost then? .... With 150 types in stock - prices obviously vary. But currently we've got bricks from around £11 per 100 plus vat upwards. So - for example - if you picked a brick around £30 per 100 + vat ( not our cheapest by far) - you could build something similar to this for a brick material cost of around £60 plus vat ..... our maybe £200 plus vat if you went for some of our dearest ones.

Design Idea 5

Slips (brick tiles) can save you space.....

Often  - when someone is building something like this they may consider a combination of full bricks and brick tiles as this can maximize the space in the opening.

We offer a cutting service and can cut most bricks into either tiles (slips) or half thickness.Where possible, we suggest cutting the bricks from the same pack you use to build the rest of it - so its very hard to spot the difference.

Quarry Tiles for the Hearth?

6" x 6" and 8" x 8" (Approx)

Quarry tiles are very traditional for brick fireplaces. We've got square edges and round edged ones to give a nice finish at the front of a hearth or mantle.

There's a good assortment of colours from blue, to brown, buff and red.
